Tree with a story
This sweet chestnut is known, along with its nearby dead neighbour, as the 'Adam and Eve' trees; two ancient trees side by side that are believed to be around 3-400 years old. They were used as ‘Hanging Trees’ to hang sheep rustlers in the eighteenth century. Some time ago some locals took some kindling from one of the trees and burned it in their hearth and the water in the well beside their house turned sour overnight. Sadly Eve died and was reduced to a stump a couple of centuries ago.
