Tree Fest, a two day celebration of the incredible world of trees as part of National Tree Week 2019!

Plant an exciting a new forest for the future.

Discover the incredible ways trees nourish us and our natural world and help tackle Climate Change.

Learn about the rich folklore behind trees in Ireland.

Make baskets, spoons and bowls in our wood craft zone.

Be inspired by groups working with trees and find out how to get involved.

Relax under canvas in the Tree Tent and feast on tree-themed treats.

Watch films in the pop-up cinema and enjoy a warming brew by the fire.

Talk trees with one of our specialist nurseries and find yourself a tree to take home.

THE FESTIVAL

Organised by An Sanctoir in collaboration with Pheonix Events, Tree Fest is a small family friendly festival for all ages.
Drop-in event, come for all or some of the weekend events. Event line-up will be released on the An Sanctoir facebook page and website in the coming weeks.
Entry by donation, however registration required as spaces limited. Visit Eventbrite & Search ‘Tree Fest 2019’ to register for a free ticket(s).

A limited quantity of on-site accommodation is available on a first come, first serve basis: Camping in the Octagonal Hall (Max 30 people); Camper Parking (Max 15 vans); Camping for the very brave will be available in the camping meadow; Any of the above options €5 per person, kids go free. LOCATION

An Sanctoir is West Cork’s very own Holistic Community Centre, home to a variety of weekly classes, weekend workshops, performances, rituals and celebrations. It is a beautiful light filled octagonal space with wooden floors and underfloor heating, set within a 30 acre nature reserve, outside the coastal village of Ballydehob.

Tree drawing workshop

Event Description and Details:
Tree drawing art workshop with Pauline Walshe for the collective of fifteen seven year olds from 1st class and 15 senior citizens from the community. This is a part of six year Intergenerational project “In the Company of Trees”. Other initiatives to mark the Tree Week:

•Future pollinators project – 1,000 trees planted in Kilmeen GAA grounds by adults and children in Kilmeen as part of a community project.

•100 native trees planted for future forest in Kilmeen N.S. in the Granster (intergenerational project) Garden.

•Planting a Granny and Grandad memory tree on Friday.

Tree Awareness Week at the Bonnington Training Centre

Short description/details of Event:
(1) Native Tree Planting

The main event will be the planting of different native tree on the large and well maintained grounds of Cope Foundation, Montennotte, Cork. The Bonnington Training Centre is situated in Montenotte and small groups of trainees will plant the trees at different times throughout the week of National Tree Week. The tree species selected by the Bonnington Centre trainees and Cope Foundation landscape department are:

• Oak
• Ash
• Beech
• Birch (paperback)
• Horse Chestnut
• Holly

(2) Tree Awareness Group Activities
Group learning activities on the importance of trees will take place throughout the week in the training centre. This will involve project work including wallcharts designed by the trainees for display. The activities will include the local flora and fauna and the importance of trees in maintaining our local wildlife.

(3) Fieldtrips and Nature Walks

Groups of trainees (weather permitting) will take part in fieldtrips and nature walks locally, such as to Fitzgerald’s Park, Ballingcollig Regional Park, the Atlantic Pond and Currabinny Woods.
